Chapter two: human?


"How is he, honey?"

"He's waking up again. Careful, he might scream again too."

"He looks weird, daddy. Is he new here?"

"Maybe, I've never seen him before. Maybe he's from the outer territories."

"What if he's one of them?"

"Don't be ridiculous, he looks nothing like them."

The voices continued, and Rex kept his eyes shut, fear made him do so. He didn't want to look at the strange thing, or what he had become. Until he began to smell something. He couldn't put it into words, but it smelled really good and soon he opened is eyes.

"Ah, I see you're up! Are you hungry, young man?" The thing said. This time it had a smaller one clinging to him. It had long brown hair, large brown eyes, light toned flesh, more weird stuff that went to her knees, and short chubby limbs. In a way, it looked kinda cute.

"Who are you? Wh-what are you?" Rex asked as he eyed the two "Heck, what am I?"

The two stared at him with confused expressions, which Rex mimicked.

"Well, I'm Dirk, and this is my daughter, Lee. Who might you be, stranger?" Dirk asked with a lop sided grin. Rex was at first hesitant, but answered.

"Rex the tyrant." He mumbled. He looked down, not feeling much like a tyrant killer at all. Dirk and Lee looked at Rex for a moment before laughing.

"A tyrant, eh? Fancy name you call yourself, Rex!" Dirk laughed as he slammed one of his large hands on Rex's back, knocking the wind out of him.

"I-it's true, I am a tyrant! I'm king of the valley, nobody messes with me!" He growled, looking Dirk in the eye, making him stop.

"Well, I see you're being honest, Rex. But there is no valley, and we're already ruled by a king." Dirk explained. Rex looked at him.

"A king? Who?" He asked, his eyes narrowed suspiciously. Dirk was silent.

"King Anton." was all he said.

Rex growled and stood up, only to lose balance and stumble back. Dirk caught him by the arm and helped him stand up straight.

"Careful. Anyway, lunch should be ready in a couple minutes. Hungry?" Dirk said with a grin that Rex suddenly could not trust.

"Um... sure."
